Cilex and Three Startups at SIIViM 2022

A Cilex program launch, a visit at TiECon Canada, a delegation at FIC North America… Fall was a busy season for the Cilex team. On top of this was added participation at the 2022 Sommet international de l’innovation en villes médianes (SIIViM) that took place in Thetford Mines from October 25 to 27.

The summit is aimed at medium-sized cities wanting to innovate and build a sustainable future. This year’s theme was Innovation Invites Itself to Your City and was centred around innovative technologies or projects linked to sustainable development and the environment, initiatives aimed at reducing a city’s environmental footprint, and the growth of local economies.

Alan Bernardi, Senior Expert in Innovation and Strategy at Cilex, was on site to attend the conference Relations citoyennes : mieux impliquer les citoyens dans la vie municipale et offrir de meilleurs services, which focused on citizens’ relationship to their city, how to better involve them in municipal life and offer them better services. Alan also saw SIIViM as an opportunity to expand the Cilex business network.

“SIIViM was a summit on a human scale where Cilex was able to share its research work on smart cities and citizen involvement. Our incubated startups’ innovative service offers helped them stand out from the crowd. They were able to build a strategic network of contacts with various innovative players in the municipal sectors, both from Quebec and France,” explained the expert.

In good company

Taking part in the event were three companies incubated at Cilex — Cocoriko, Northern Block and the Construction Estimating Center (CEC). SIIViM was a perfect opportunity for these innovative startups to connect and network with businesses from all around the world and take part in various conferences.

Daniela Gutiérrez de Piñeres, Manager of Marketing and Communications at Northern Block, explained the company’s link to sustainable municipal development: “Using our digital credentials management platform Orbit Enterprise and our mobile application Orbit Edge, we demonstrated that it is possible to create a secure and cryptographic connection between a city and its citizens. Such a connection will one day enable the exchange of various digital credentials, such as driver’s licences and passports. This event will definitely have an impact on our strategic development.”

The SIIViM also helped the Construction Estimating Center validate cities’ interest in their EstimCAD Decking and Railing application.

“We got multiple cities interested in taking part in our pilot project. Our objective is 100% met and we are very satisfied with our first time here,” added Marco Vachon, founder of the CEC.
