Everyone is aware by now that the last few months have severely taxed healthcare services. It is therefore with enthusiasm that clinicians and healthcare professionals welcome the innovative technology platform SEKMED.
The innovative product designed by Dr. Sylvain Croteau – emergency physician at the Gatineau Hospital for 29 years and founder of Solution Doc 2.0 – was presented last month to a cohort at Living Lab Charlevoix. Dr. Hubert Dufour Neyron and Dr. Vincent Gauvin, two members of that cohort, have been able to implement SEKMED regionally since then and validate it as a useful technology solution.
SEKMED (Software for the Evolution of Knowledge in Medicine) is an interactive and scalable web-based work platform. It helps pool together healthcare knowledge and best practices and share it with the entire Quebec medical community. Clinicians and healthcare professionals can thus create, aggregate and update interactives resources to help the healthcare community with patient history-taking, physical assessment, differential diagnosis, medical care, therapy, and referral.
The platform reduces the amount of time clinicians and healthcare professionals have to spend on document monitoring. It helps them focus more on their patients by ensuring they have all the tools they need right at their fingertips, in addition to allowing them to expand their knowledge base using reliable sources.
In 2018, Solution Doc 2.0 received a grant of $450,000 from the Fonds de soutien à l’innovation en santé et en services sociaux, which allowed them to test SEKMED in real-world clinical trials through the Centre intégré de la santé et des services sociaux de l’Outaouais (CISSSO). Under the guidance of Professor Véronique Nabelsi, the project’s lead researcher and Director of R&D at Cilex, the venture brought together 60 doctors from the Hull and Gatineau hospitals along with 10 students from McGill University. The collaborative project has also been receiving the support of Cilex through networking, research status monitoring, network development, business intelligence and the resulting organizational changes.
Solution Doc 2.0 and Professor Nabelsi have also obtained funding from Quebec’s Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux for internship development in a university family medicine group (U-FMG) located regionally.
